He visited Shanghai 6 , and attended our show in this programme. Professor McCarthy, welcome back to City Life after ten years. You’ve noticed a lot of changes in Shanghai. Just describe the changes you’ve seen and how you think of them? I mean, are these changes 7 ? B: Thank you, Terry. You’ve actually 8 that have taken place in Shanghai in the last decade. Compared with the life about ten years ago, it appears that the changes are overwhelming. A: Yes, China successfully organized 9 , and Shanghai also enjoyed a great success in 10 . So what are the changes you have noticed? B: Well the first thing I’ve noticed is housing. When my plane was approaching Shanghai Pudong International Airport, I saw not only many groups of high-rises in downtown, but also 11 , apartment buildings around the suburbs. They looked beautiful with gardens and green fields around them in 12 near the evening. A: Yes. I also bought my new apartment in a new area in the suburbs. But people are complaining that 13 . B: Yes, this is what I also noticed this time. Many people have told me that the price of the property is very high now. This could cause problems for the people who live on 14 or the young people who want to own their own apartment. Besides housing, I have also noticed changes in transportation. Almost every road is 15 , especially private cars. Private cars were 16 in Shanghai about 10 years ago, but today, it’s common for a family to own even two cars. A: Yes. My family has two cars.
