John lives in a small town .He has a shop in which he sells books. He‟s busy all the time and his wife does all homework. 9 One day, Mike, his little son, caught a cold. His wife sent him to the hospital. The doctor looked over the boy and told him to be in hospital. His wife had to look after him there. He was worried about his son, but had no time to go to see him. That night he went to bed very late but couldn‟t soon fall asleep. About an hour later, as soon as he went to sleep, the telephone rang. He got up at once and held receiver up and said, “Hello, who‟s that?” “Can you hear who‟s speaking here, John ?” a woman laughed and said. “Oh, Mum”said John. “What has happened to you?” “Nothing, dear”said the woman. “It‟s your birthday today.” “Have you given me a call in the middle of night only to tell me about it ?” John asked in surprise. “Yes , my dear”said the old woman. “You got me up thirty years ago and I want to get you up at this time today!”
