Mary was a 911 op e r a tor( j 接线员 )in Los Angeles. One Thursday mor n ing, she was sur pr is e d t o g e t a ca l l from a young child who said, “ Mom is ill, Mom is i l l ” , again and again. Mary hur r i e d to f i nd the a d dress of the c a ll. She called the p o lice. In a minute, the p o licemen and doctors a r rived at the ho u s e . T hey broke the door open, and they couldn't believe their eyes. The litt l e child was so young that maybe she could not walk! She was sitting beside her mother and holding her mother's hand. Tears were run n ing down her face. The doctor gave the woman some medicine and soon she woke up. Later, she told people,"Everyone was surprised that my daughter could call 911. One Monday I tried to teach her how to call but she couldn't do it." Mary was surprised, too. "It's the first time I' ve seen a two-year old child c al l 911 .
