A good resume does two things: it gives the employers a concise, accurate picture of your skills and experience, and it attempts to convince them that you and their company are a good match. There are several forms: chronological, experience-based and functional. The functional is the best route to take for a new graduate: You get all the necessary information in an easy-to-read form. Your resume should at least include: Name and contact information Job objective Education Awards and other forms of recognition, if applicable Internships and work or leadership experience Language and computer skills Professional memberships, if applicable Remember, the purpose of your resume is to generate enough interest in you to have an employer contact you for an interview. So, your first goal should be the same as the company's goal or the goal of the position you're applying for. You can structure your resume around that objective. If you don't show a sense of direction, employers won't be interested. Currently, most job positions in job adverts may say that a minimum of one or two years of work experience is required. What if you don't have any experience? As a university graduate, you only need a brief, concentrated period of volunteer training or work to say that you have some experience to put on your resume. Also, look at some of the volunteer work and social activities you've organised or participated in, and see if any of that counts for skills you'll need for your future job. In addition, fill your resume with 'PAR' statements (Problem-Action-Results). In other words, first you state the problem that existed in your study life or in your part-time workplace, then you describe what you did about it, and finally you point out the beneficial results. Nowadays, university graduates tend to make their resume into a 'book' to show they have a lot of experience, and many girls even add a photo album. The truth is, you don't need to go into detail about every accomplishment. To get an interview, you should think of your resume as a marketing tool. What are your features and strong points? What makes you unique? Make sure to convey this information in your resume, and if necessary you should alter your resume to fit different companies.
